Is Decluttering Covered by the NDIS? A Plain-English Guide
If clutter has slowly taken over a room — or a whole home — and you're an NDIS participant, you've probably wondered whether your plan can help pay for someone to sort it out. The short answer is: often, yes — decluttering and home organising can be funded through an NDIS plan. Whether it's funded in your plan depends on your goals and how your plan is set up. Here's how it works, in everyday language.
Why decluttering can be an NDIS support
The NDIS funds supports that are reasonable and necessary because of a person's disability. When clutter builds up it's often not about tidiness at all — it can make a home genuinely unsafe (blocked exits, trip and fall hazards), add to stress and anxiety, and make everyday tasks harder to manage. Support to declutter and organise the home is most commonly funded where clutter is affecting your safety or wellbeing, or getting in the way of living independently.
Which part of your plan it usually comes from
Two budget areas are relevant, and they do slightly different things:
- Assistance with Daily Life (Core Supports) — someone helping you do the task: hands-on decluttering, sorting and organising to keep your home safe and comfortable.
- Improved Daily Living (Capacity Building) — building your skills and routines so you can stay organised more independently over time.
Some plans draw on one, some on a mix. Your planner or support coordinator is the best person to confirm what your specific plan allows.
How your plan is managed matters
- Self-managed — you have the most flexibility and can choose most providers.
- Plan-managed — your plan manager pays approved invoices, and you can generally use non-registered providers.
- NDIA-managed — you'll usually need a registered NDIS provider.
Northern Beaches Home Organisation works with self-managed and plan-managed participants, provides clear quotes, and invoices to suit your plan.
What decluttering support can look like
- Room-by-room decluttering at a comfortable, unrushed pace
- Sorting into keep / donate / recycle — you decide what stays
- Setting up simple, accessible storage and labelling
- Clearing safe pathways to reduce trip and fall hazards
- Practical routines so the home stays manageable afterwards
It's hands-on and judgement-free. For many participants — including people managing ADHD, autism, chronic health conditions, anxiety, hoarding or chronic disorganisation — the biggest relief is simply having calm, respectful help to make a start.
How to get decluttering into your NDIS plan
- Think about your goals. Note how clutter affects your safety, stress or independence — that's the link the NDIS looks for.
- Talk to your planner or support coordinator. Ask whether the support fits under Assistance with Daily Life or Improved Daily Living.
- Get a quote. We provide a written quote after a free discovery call.
- Book your first session. We start at a pace that suits you.
An honest note
We can't promise the NDIS will fund your decluttering — every plan is different, and funding decisions rest with the NDIS, your planner or your support coordinator. What we can do is make the process easy: a friendly chat, a clear quote, and respectful, capable help when you're ready.
