Decluttering & Home Organisation FAQ
Straight answers to the questions Northern Beaches and North Shore clients ask most.
Northern Beaches Home Organisation is a professional decluttering and home organisation service founded by Tanya, a professional organiser based in Newport. She works in clients' homes across Sydney's Northern Beaches and North Shore — kitchens, wardrobes, kids' rooms, laundries, garages, home offices and whole-home resets. Every project starts with a free discovery call and is quoted to your home.
Book a free, no-obligation discovery call by phone or through the contact form. We talk through the rooms, how your household works, and whether NDIS or a private quote is the right path, then send a written quote. Sessions are in-home across the Northern Beaches and North Shore; travel in that area is included.
Every home and project is different, so rather than fixed prices we quote each one after a free, no-obligation discovery call. We offer a starter session for a single space, a three-session home reset, and a whole-home transform scoped to the size of the home. Quotes are in Australian dollars and include GST, travel in our Northern Beaches and North Shore area is included, and products or skips are extra if needed.

For most households, yes, when the real problem is decisions and time rather than a lack of storage. An organiser keeps the sorting moving, so a pantry or wardrobe that has sat on the to-do list for years is usually finished in one session, with the donations gone the same day. It is often better value than what people try first: buying storage that doesn't fix the problem, or paying to keep things they never use. It is less worth it if what you mainly need is cleaning or rubbish removal, which are different services. The discovery call is free, so you can find out what your project involves before spending anything.
A session usually runs about five hours in your home. We start with a quick walk-through of the space and what isn't working, then empty it one section at a time and sort everything into categories. You decide what stays; everything else is bagged to donate, recycle or dispose of. We clean the space, plan where things should live based on how often you use them, put it all back and label it. Donations leave with us at the end. You don't need to tidy beforehand or buy any storage.
For the sorting stage, yes — you make the final decision on every item, so your input is essential, especially at the start. Once we have a rhythm and the decisions are made, there are usually tasks such as containerising, labelling and putting spaces back together that Tanya can complete on her own while you take a break.
No. The final decision on every single item is always yours. Our role is to help you get clear on what you genuinely use, need and love, and then make letting go of the rest as easy and unemotional as possible. The process is completely non-judgemental.
A single pantry or wardrobe is often completed in one session of around five hours. A whole home typically runs across several sessions spread over weeks. The variables are the size of the space, the volume of clutter, and how quickly you are comfortable making decisions — we will give you a realistic estimate during the discovery call.
Items are sorted into keep, donate, recycle and dispose as we go. We recommend local Northern Beaches and North Shore charities and recycling services that will actually take each category, box the donations for you, and can either coordinate a pickup or drop them off so the items leave your home the same day.
No — we are a professional organiser, not a skip-bin or council collection service. We sort, donate and recycle as we go, and we can time a session around a Northern Beaches Council bulky-goods or clean-up booking so leftover rubbish leaves with the council truck. Skip hire, if you need it, is arranged separately and is not included in the organising quote.
Please do not. Buying containers before decluttering is the most common and most expensive mistake — you cannot know what size or how many you need until you see what is staying. We work with what you already have wherever possible, and only then recommend specific products that fit your space and your items.
No — it genuinely helps us to see the space as you normally live in it. Tidying beforehand hides the pain points we most need to see, and the systems we design are based on how you actually use the room day to day.
It is extremely common, and it is nothing to apologise for. Clutter accumulates through busy periods, grief, illness, growing families and life changes — not through any personal failing. We have worked with many Sydney households in exactly this position and the service is strictly judgement-free and confidential.
We cover the Northern Beaches from Manly to Palm Beach — including Dee Why, Freshwater, Curl Curl, Brookvale, Narrabeen, Collaroy, Mona Vale, Newport, Avalon Beach, Seaforth, Balgowlah and Frenchs Forest — and the Lower and Upper North Shore, including Mosman, Cremorne, Neutral Bay, North Sydney, Crows Nest, Lane Cove, Chatswood, Willoughby, Roseville, Lindfield, Gordon, Pymble, Turramurra, St Ives and Wahroonga.
Yes. We sort and edit belongings before you pack, which means you only pay to move what you are actually keeping, and we can unpack into a working system at the other end. This is one of our most requested services for people downsizing from a family home.
Completely. What is in your home stays private. We do not discuss clients, and no photograph of your home is ever published without your explicit written permission.
Kitchens and pantries, wardrobes and closets, kids' rooms and playrooms, garages and storage areas, home offices and paperwork, and whole-home resets — plus downsizing and move preparation.
It can be. Decluttering and home organising may be funded through an NDIS plan — often under Assistance with Daily Life (Core Supports) or Improved Daily Living (Capacity Building), particularly where clutter affects safety or wellbeing. Whether it is funded in your plan depends on your goals and how your plan is set up, so check with your planner or support coordinator. See the NDIS page and the NDIS funding guide on this site for more.
No. We operate as an unregistered NDIS provider. Self-managed and plan-managed participants can generally use unregistered providers. NDIA-managed plans usually need a registered provider. We can supply an NDIS Worker Screening clearance on request. Funding is never guaranteed — confirm with your planner or support coordinator. See our NDIS page for details.
Yes. We operate as an unregistered NDIS provider for self-managed and plan-managed participants, with quotes and invoices to suit. We can supply an NDIS Worker Screening clearance on request. We are happy to coordinate with your family, support coordinator or occupational therapist, and we support participants managing ADHD, autism, anxiety, hoarding and chronic disorganisation.
Yes. We can supply a copy of our NDIS Worker Screening clearance on request — typically for support coordinators, plan managers or families who need it on file before a session.
