An organised wardrobe with clothes hung by category

Northern Beaches Home Organisation organises wardrobes and walk-in robes in clients' homes across Sydney's Northern Beaches and North Shore. We go through your clothes with you by category, you decide what stays, and we rebuild the hanging and folded storage so you can see everything you own and get dressed without digging. A standard wardrobe usually takes one session.

It's a good fit after a change in size or job, when two people share one robe, or when the wardrobe is full and you still feel like you have nothing to wear. Nothing is thrown out without your say-so.

What we focus on

  • Grouping by category, then colour, so gaps and doubles are obvious
  • Consistent hangers and a fold that fits your drawers
  • Off-season clothes stored out of the prime space
  • An honest edit with no judgement, and every decision is yours

Most single wardrobes fit our Starter session. Walk-in robes or several rooms may suit a Home reset or Whole-home package. Every project is quoted after a free discovery call.

How a wardrobe session runs

  1. Everything comes out. We empty the wardrobe one section at a time onto the bed, so you see how many black T-shirts or work shirts you really have.
  2. Sort by category. Tops, trousers, dresses, knits, workwear, going-out, activewear. Deciding within a category is far quicker than deciding item by item across the whole robe.
  3. Keep, donate, repair or let go. You make the calls. Anything you can't decide on goes in a maybe pile to try on at the end.
  4. Clean and plan the space. With the robe empty, we wipe it out and work out where long hanging, short hanging, shelves and drawers should go.
  5. Put it back so it stays. Most-worn at eye level and within reach, occasion-wear higher up, off-season packed away. Donations leave with us.

Common problems we fix

  • Rails too full to move. Usually a mix of too many clothes and bulky mismatched hangers. Editing plus slim hangers often frees a third of the rail.
  • Deep shelves where things vanish. Stacks get split into shorter piles, and shelf dividers stop them toppling.
  • The chair or floor pile. Worn-once clothes need a home that isn't the floor, like a hook or a small basket inside the robe.
  • Small, older built-ins. Common in cottages and apartments. We make use of the door back, the space above the rail and under-bed storage for off-season clothes.

Before your session

Don't tidy up first and don't buy storage. It helps to do your washing so most of your clothes are in the wardrobe, and to have a few bags or boxes ready for donations. That's it.

Wardrobe organising FAQs

A standard built-in wardrobe is usually done in one session of around five hours, including the edit, the donation run and putting everything back. A walk-in robe, or two wardrobes plus drawers, can take longer. We give you a realistic estimate on the free discovery call once we know what's in there.

No. Most clothes are easy calls: you know straight away whether you wear them. We only set aside the pieces you're genuinely unsure about, and you try those on at the end, when the easy decisions are done and there's space to see yourself properly.

Wearable clothing is bagged for charity. Salvos, Vinnies and Lifeline shops take clean, wearable items, and we can drop donations off so they leave your house the same day. Clothes that are worn out or stained aren't suitable for op shops. H&M stores run a clothing take-back for textiles, and your council's reuse and recycling guide lists other options.

Please don't. Until the edit is finished, nobody knows how much hanging space or how many drawers you actually need. Once we can see what's staying, we'll tell you exactly what's worth buying. Often that's just a set of matching slim hangers, which alone frees a surprising amount of rail space.

Yes, and it's one of the most common requests. We split the space by who dresses first and who needs more hanging versus folding, rather than simply down the middle, and give each person a clear zone so one person's overflow stops creeping into the other's side.
